Servicing
The original Subaru service interval was every six months or 7,500 miles. This was for any model from 2000 Sport to STi. A few years later this was altered to twelve months or 10,000 miles, and this has now been increased even further! This change to service intervals was made to make Subaru models appear more attractive to the fleet market. In this market ‘costs-per-mile’ are presented to allow companies to compare the running costs of vehicles from different manufacturers. Almost doubling the service interval obviously reduces the ‘costs-per-mile’ figure, and as most fleet cars are sold within 3 years of purchase, the detrimental effects of the long service intervals have not started to show. In our opinion, it is ludicrous for a high performance car to go so long in-between services. All of the components (engine, transmission, suspension and brakes) are generally working much harder than they would on a normal saloon car. In light of this, we recommend that the maximum service interval should be 6 months or 7,500 miles. Using our extensive knowledge of these cars we have formulated our own service schedules. These are based on the original manufacturers chart, but with additional operations that we feel necessary.
