| To ensure correct gearing and accurate speedometer calibration, we recommend that the overall tyre diameter does not differ from the original by more than 5%. (for example, standard 255/45X16 tyre is 608mm, maximum recommended size is 638.4mm). However, when using 8.5" wide wheels, the recommended tyre size is 235/40X18 giving an overall diameter of 645mm. We feel that the advantages of using this tyre, (additional sidewall protection to the wheel) outweighs the slight disadvantage of a larger than recommended diameter. On the small turbo (EECIV) Escort Cosworth, the bottom spring platform is fixed to the front suspension unit in a lower position when compared with the earlier (large turbo) models. This will reduce the clearance available above the tyre, and if 235/40X18 tyres are to be used, modifications to this spring platform will be necessary. GGR can make the necessary modifications to your own suspension units or ready modified Bilstein or Koni shock absorbers can be supplied from stock. Please note that to ensure sufficient location of the wheel nut and stud, the fitting of longer studs may be deemed necessary if wheel spacers or aftermarket brake kits are fitted. | ||||
