Specific information on conversions and power increases
POWER INCREASES | ||
The Ford Cosworth range of cars must represent the best value for money today, on a performance per pound basis. In standard form (at @ 200 BHP), the performance is most impressive, and in modified form, the performance potential is staggering. GGR have been involved with Cosworths since the introduction of the Sierra in 1986, when we started to build our original Group A Sierra Cosworth for Graham to race in the British Touring Car Championship. Firstly as a Sierra Cosworth, and then, in August 1987, we converted the car to RS 500 specification when this became eligible for Group A competition. (Graham won this race, the first ever race win for an RS 500). We competed in the British Touring Car Championship with Sierra RS 500's (cars driven by Graham himself, and for customers, Mike Newman, and Sean Walker,) from 1987 until turbo cars were outlawed by a change of regulations at the end of 1990. For the 1992 season Graham was invited to race his RS 500 in Malaysian rounds of the South East Asian Touring Car Championship, and over the next three years, he won every race but one (when he finished a very close second). During this intensive involvement with Touring Car racing Cosworths, we always developed and built our own engines, and watched the power produced grow to a magnificent and reliable 540 BHP. In addition to our own efforts with Touring Cars, we have also built Cosworth engines for customer use in many other forms of motorsport. As you can imagine, we have built up a wealth of knowledge along the way, and we use this information in the conversions that we offer for road cars. We are in the unique position of being the only company offering road conversions, that has had such an intensive involvement with the Cosworth. We understand the limitations of the standard engine and its ancillaries and the levels of power increase offered for an un-modified engine will reflect this. If the power produced by these conversions falls below your requirements, we can always tailor a conversion to your exact requirements. By carefully selecting the mechanical modifications that are made to your engine, and combining them with matching improvements to the ancillary components, safe, reliable, and driveable power can be produced. ***PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MAKING THESE ENGINES PRODUCE MORE POWER IS RELATIVELY EASY; SKILL AND EXPERIENCE ARE REQUIRED TO RETAIN GOOD ROAD MANNERS, AND MECHANICAL RELIABILITY*** The mechanical specification of the Cosworth range has slowly evolved during the 10 years of production. Many detail improvements being made during the transition from two wheel drive Sierra, through to four wheel drive Escort Cosworth. When explaining the conversions that we can offer, we will divide the cars into five separate categories. Due to the basic similarities between the different models of Cosworth, we can offer similar conversions for nearly all models. However, the small turbo Escort Cosworth is substantially different, both mechanically, and electronically when compared to its predecessors and power increases beyond our 305 BHP conversion requires extensive (and expensive) mechanical & electronic modifications.
Over recent years our attention has been focused on the Escort Cosworth range, but wherever possible, we have incorporated any new ideas learned in developing the Escort conversions into our existing conversions for the Sierra models.
